We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer to help build the next generation of intelligent systems that power the AndHealth platform. This role combines modern software engineering with applied AI, focusing on building production-ready applications that improve the patient experience, support our care teams, and streamline operational workflows.
In this role, you will work across the full software development lifecycle from identifying high-impact opportunities for AI to architecting and deploying production systems that integrate seamlessly into our mobile, web, and backend platforms.
You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Care teams to build technology that directly improves patient outcomes.

What you'll do in the role:
- Design and develop intelligent applications that improve the experience for patients and care teams, including AI copilots that assist with patient workflows and clinical operations.
- Build AI-powered tools that generate insights from patient data, enhance patient communication and engagement, and automate administrative tasks for clinicians and care teams.
- Design and deploy scalable AI systems using modern applied AI techniques, including LLM-powered applications integrated into real product workflows.
- Build and maintain RAG pipelines, vector-based knowledge retrieval systems, and AI agents that automate complex tasks and workflows.
- Implement prompt orchestration, evaluation, monitoring, and guardrails to ensure AI systems are reliable, observable, and safe for healthcare environments.
- Partner with Product, Care, and Operations teams to understand real-world healthcare workflows and identify operational bottlenecks where AI can improve efficiency, decision-making, and patient outcomes.
- Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on AI solutions using real user feedback and usage data to ensure systems deliver measurable improvements in clinical and operational workflows.’
- Integrate AI services into AndHealth’s mobile, web, and backend platforms to enable intelligent features across patient and care-team experiences.
- Build and maintain data pipelines and backend services that power AI applications and support reliable model inputs and outputs.
- Deploy and operate AI systems on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring performance, scalability, security, and reliability in collaboration with platform and infrastructure teams.
- Partner with Product, Data, and Care teams to translate real-world operational challenges into scalable AI-powered solutions that improve patient and care-team outcomes.
- Contribute to shaping AndHealth’s AI strategy, architecture, and tooling to support the responsible and effective use of AI across the platform.
Education & Licensure Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Other Skills or Qualifications:
- Experience building production AI applications, particularly systems powered by LLMs such as RAG pipelines, AI copilots, workflow automation tools, or knowledge retrieval systems.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building scalable backend systems using languages such as Python, TypeScript, or similar.
- Experience designing APIs, distributed systems, and service-based architectures that support reliable and scalable applications.
- Experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
- Familiarity with modern AI tooling including LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic), vector databases, embeddings pipelines, and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
- Experience implementing prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and monitoring approaches to ensure AI system quality and reliability.
- Ability to design and integrate systems across multiple services, databases, and third-party APIs, ensuring secure and reliable data flow.
- A patient-first mindset, with the ability to design intuitive, reliable technology that improves experiences for patients and care teams while maintaining strong standards for privacy and security.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, Engineering, Data, and Care teams to translate operational challenges into technical solutions.
